My Life is not My Own

Key Verse: Jeremiah 29:11- “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (NIV)

Our path is almost never as we specifically have planned it.  Our heart tells us that we are supposed to work in a specific area where we have a genuine interest and desire to be used.  We then set out to make that calling and gifting a reality in our life.  What we fail to remember to do is to ask God how He wants to make that a reality.  Jeremiah 29:11 is one my favorite verses in the Bible. It says that God has this perfect plan for life.  It says His plans are good plans meant to prosper us and provide good for us, not to destroy us.  How amazing it is to know without a doubt that God has a special plan for each of us!

I love to sing. (Love is probably an understatement here.) When I was a young girl my bed became my stage and my hairbrush was my microphone.  I was constantly singing, everywhere.  The first time I ever sang in front of a crowd of people was at the age of six.  I sang Oh How He Loves You and Me.  I don’t ever remember a time where I wasn’t singing.  God gifted to me a talent and the only thing I ever wanted to do was use that talent for Him. EVERYWHERE!

Through high school and into my first years of college my goal was to sing anywhere and everywhere.  I did as many competitions and voice trainings as I could.  I traveled for school and church to sing.  I sang with worship teams, choirs, show choirs, bands and for special events.  Why this story? It is an illustration of the proof that if we fail to seek God in how he wants us to use the talents and gifts He has given us then we get lost along the way.

I thought God wanted me to be a Christian artist with the ability to write and record albums and travel the globe reaching hearts for Him through music.  I traveled for a year in college with a Christian band, Servant’s Heart. It was one of many highlights in my life, but my plans changed over and over again.  I have not become a Christian artist traveling the world and singing.  I am the mother to four and wife to my beloved husband.  I have finished my bachelor’s degree after way too many years of working for it while taking care of everything at home and trying to work part time.

You see, God has plans for our lives.  While my plans have not gone exactly as desired, I know I was meant to be the mother to my children and married to my husband.  God still uses my singing.  I have been able to be part of amazing worship teams for the past fourteen years all over the United States.  I still continue to sing and lead in worship and for special events.  God did not take away my talent because I had other plans.  He fulfills my heart with every place we go and He still has the ability to lead me into the recording studio should He choose to do so.

Lord, Your plans are good. I want to walk in Your plan for my life and reach those You put in my path. Show me today what You have in store for my day and life.  Thank You, Lord.  Amen.
