How Do You Pray for Your Children?

A friend recently posted six verses to pray over your kids while they are at school, but I found that I pray these over my kids outside of school too.

prayer for our kids

Pray for them to have Self Control: 1 Peter 5:8 (NLT),Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.”

Pray for them to have Courage: Joshua 1:9 (NLT), “This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Pray for Help from the Holy Spirit: John 7:38-39a (NLT), “Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.’”(When he said “living water,” he was speaking of the Spirit, who would be given to everyone believing in him. But the Spirit had not yet been given,”

Pray for them to have Opportunities to do Good: Galatians 6:10 (NLT), Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone—especially to those in the family of faith.”

Pray for them to Overcome Evil: Romans 12:21 (NLT), “Don’t let evil conquer you, but conquer evil by doing good.”

Pray for them to Love God and Others: Matthew 22:37-39 (NLT), “Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”

I know what it feels like to send your kids off to school knowing that there are all kinds of influence that they will experience while away from you.  While it may be a relief to have them away at school so that you can work and get done the things necessary in your home, a parent never stops thinking of their child while they are away.  God has given us the words to pray and ability to speak the truth into their hearts.  I’m right with ya in this.

Feel free to print or save the picture for reference and keep on praying for your kids. It makes a difference.

Lord, you have blessed us with children to care for, even if we didn’t birth them.  Help us to be the parents, grandparents, guardians and Christian adults in their lives that you have called us all to be.  Bring these Scriptures to mind often so that we can continuously pray for our children. In your name, Amen.
