Over (whelmed)

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.  Colossians 3:23-24

Do you ever feel like life is just too much? Not in a tragic sense but an everyday- I- have- so- much-to-do way? There are so many good things that should or could be done, how do I pick the right one for this day?

This is my everyday life right now. I just moved my family to a new community where we are starting a new ministry; we just bought our first house and had to empty a storage unit that housed our belongings for two years. All of our previous life packed in a box, loaded in a U-Haul and now sitting in my house waiting to be unpacked. Where do I start? Where does it all go? Overwhelming!

Sometimes I think all of our life can feel like that, even our spiritual life. I am doing well in my walk with God and then I look around and see all the needs, all the things that I could do, and it seems overwhelming. Where do I start? Can I even make a difference in the midst of all the chaos?

Satan loves to whisper in our ears that we don’t matter and that we can’t make a difference. He wants us to feel overwhelmed. But you know what I have learned about walking with God? It’s one step at a time. It’s asking, Lord how can I make a difference in this day, today? What is the best eternal thing you have for me to do today? Somedays that may look really spiritual like leading a Bible study or attending church, but somedays it may be loving your child and cleaning your house. The verse above gives us so much freedom. Whatever you do. Are you doing something right now? Then do it as working for the Lord. It is Christ you are serving. We forget that whatever really means whatever. It doesn’t have to look spiritual; you don’t even have to feel like it’s making a huge difference. We just have to use our whatever in working for the Lord. He is the one who takes what we give Him and does the miraculous. Like the little boy with the fish and bread, sometimes I look at what I am doing and think, this isn’t much. But what happened when place in the hand of an Almighty God? He feed over 5,000 people.

Don’t let Satan overwhelm you. Whatever you are doing, dishes, diapers or directing boxes to be moved, let’s give it to God and see what he does.

Lord, help us to know that you can use our ordinary lives and make them something great. Help us to use our whatevers for you. I pray that you would help us to overcome the enemy that tries to overwhelm us daily. We rest in you and your power to use even the mundane of life.

  1. I often find myself overwhelmed. It’s the life of a self employed homeschooling wife , mothetlr, daughter of God and earthly parents. It happens. When I start to feel it coming on, I pray. I ask for assistance in doing that which is asked of me. I ask Heavenly Father to help me do all that HE wants of me. I ask for assistance in being christ-like. And I ask to be comforted. It helps a lot. Knowing I have Christ on myside and Heavenly father guiding me allows me to get more done. Love you all sisters!!!!
