Season Rest

season-rest
Ladies, ladies!! It’s the Christmas season again! Are you excited? Freaking out? Tired? Scared? Apprehensive? Absolutely filled with that-time-of-the-year joy? Well no matter what your perspective, the reason for the season never changes!! Don’t you love that?! No matter if the cookies come out just so, or the decorations on the tree look nice (or ever make it on to the tree), Christ is still the reason for the season- and you can REST in that.
And about that…rest. What a thought at this time of the year, huh?! But trust me to go there for a little bit. I’m talking about both the kind that finds you on the couch for a minute just to pull away from the hustle and bustle and be quiet, just quiet, and rest in Him. And also the kind that no matter what you’re doing, you have that quiet confidence that comes from Him, and you know that you’re found in Him, and it doesn’t all rest on your shoulders.
You know what I’m talking about, right? I know that I have been there. That temptation as a “pastor’s wife,” to feel accountable for everything happening or not happening in the church. All the relationship stuff in the church, the worship time, the decorations, the ministries success in the church, the new people that come in feeling welcome. You get it. But somewhere inside there has to be that “knowing” inside that HE has it. Yeah, that HE is holding it all together and it will be okay. That I don’t have to hold all things for all people and be everybody’s hero.  Sometimes that’s where we try to find our personal value or security, and it’s not supposed to be like that, because that’s not what we were created for. We lose our peace.
Our church has a prayer time on Monday nights (not put together by my husband or I), and I went in, and you know what? I didn’t say a word. Not “sorry for my sins,” not “I worship you,” nothing. I just rested in His presence. It was so refreshing. And that is what His presence does for us. We need to practice this presence to maintain peace. And He is so willing, ladies!
So go to a quiet corner for a time and just give God a blank check. Just rest in his presence, no agenda, no questions, no comments, no “orders”, and just BE. And let this season be the time that you really let your spirit rest in him. So when you turn on those Christmas carols reminding  us of the reason for the season, you can truly take it in!!
Philippians 4:7, And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Merry Christmas ladies!
