I’m Perplexed

I can still smile…I know God is on the throne and He is in control…I know how very deeply I am loved…I am blessed by much and I am thankful…I have nothing to fear for God is with me…I am surrounded by family and friends…my family and I are enjoying good health and God provides for our every need…

Where does this feeling of depression come from?  I am serving the LORD…I am in His presence and seeking His will…Where have I opened the door to this darkness?

The LORD is near to the heartbroken

And He saves those who are crushed

in spirit (contrite in heart, truly

   sorry for their sin).

   Many hardships and perplexing

   circumstances confront the righteous,

But the LORD rescues him from them all.

               -Psalm 34:18-19 AMP

Christians are not immune to mental illness. I am not immune to depression! But I can put on the full armor of God (Eph. 6:14-16), and meet this day ready to wage against the hardships and perplexing circumstances that are already confronting me before I rise. I am protected by THE ONE who is above all else.

I am not the same person I was before Jesus called me, the heartbroken and crushed…I believe and I repent of my sins and accept His gift of salvation and cleansing of my soul. I am redeemed. There are days when I have to wake myself from the nightmares and shout, “I AM REDEEMED!” at my spiritual enemies, but I am still new and filled with God’s Spirit.

I know the TRUTH and wear it like a belt around my waist. (vs.14)

I wear God’s RIGHTEOUSNESS like armor on my chest. (vs.14)

My feet are sandaled with readiness for the gospel of PEACE. (vs.15)

I raise up the shield of FAITH and extinguish the flaming arrows of the evil one that are flying about my head. (vs. 16)

I have taken the helmet of SALVATION and wear it proudly. (vs. 16)

And I wield the sword of the Spirit, which is GOD’S WORD. (vs. 16)

I am redeemed. I am loved. I am beautifully made in the image of the one true GOD. I am daughter to the Almighty and living through His son Jesus Christ. His Spirit lives within me. Because He lives, I can face tomorrow, and because I know this, I am ready for today.

Dear sisters, be strengthened by the Lord, draw your strength from Him and be empowered through your union with Him and  in the power of His boundless might. Put on the full armor of God, so that you may be able to stand up against all the schemes and the strategies and the deceits of the devil. (vs.10-11)

Father God, You are the victorious one. Please empower us in your strength and might for the days ahead this new year. Help us to walk carefully, as the wise do, and make the most of our time on earth. May we recognize and take advantage of each opportunity to use with wisdom and diligence. Please help each one of us to understand and firmly grasp Your will and be constantly guided by your Holy Spirit. May we speak to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, offering praise by singing  and making melody with our hearts to You LORD; always giving thanks for all things, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. (Ephesians 5:15-21) Amen.

As apostles of Christ we could have been a burden to you, but we were gentle among you, like a mother caring for her little children. We loved you so much that we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well, because you had become so dear to us. Surely you remember, brothers, our toil and hardship; we worked night and day in order not to be a burden to anyone while we preached the gospel of God to you. You are witnesses, and so is God, of how holy, righteous and blameless we were among you who believed. For you know that we dealt with each of you as a father deals with his own children, encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives worthy of God, who calls you into his kingdom and glory.

  1. Lorinda: As always your words are wonderful. I wish I would have had a chance to of shared this with a teenager that took his own life on New Years evening. I never knew the young man but it is so important that we Know Who Holds Our Hand. Thanks for your wonderful words!

    • I hurt for those who lose hope as that young man did. I was there on the brink when Christ called me into His loving grace and mercies. Thank You, Father God, for bringing me such life through your Son. Glennette, it is always a blessing to hear from you. I pray from the ashes of this young man’s life God will show His hand of hope and love to others. May his friends and family be brought the healing that God’s time and presence afford those who mourn in His protective will, and be guarded against Satan’s attack and bitterness.
