Live In It
1 Thessalonians 5:12-13, “And now, friends, we ask you to honor those leaders who work so hard for you, who have been given the responsibility of urging and guiding you along in your obedience. Overwhelm them with appreciation and love!” (MSG)
Do you know what it means to live a life in appreciation? I didn’t really. I mean, I just lived as if this was all meant to be for me. Harsh reality, huh? It’s truth.
I took and still take for granted most of what surrounds me in life. Air to take another breath. Trees to provide that air. Beautiful landscapes to capture my heart. Wonderful people that call me sister, daughter, friend, wife, mother…
I want to really explore what living in appreciation means and then actually live it. Come on this journey with me.
What if we started to pay attention to what and whom we appreciate before it no longer is? This change in thought and action could be the change we need in every area of our life. There are wonderful things happening in your life, all around you, all the time, but only if you choose to recognize it.
I am going to share my top three tips for living in appreciation. Now, know that I do not have this appreciation thing perfected, but I try to remember this in my every day. I don’t want to wake up one day all alone and realize that I should have shown more appreciation.
Let others know how they have impacted your life. Just a simple word of thanks or a card that shows you have been thinking of them can speak volumes and change a life.
You have to make conscious decision to use positivity instead of negativity. I would much rather be surrounded by positive people and I want to be one of those people for others.
Choose Words Wisely
What words do you use with others? About things. About others? About yourself? Use words that build up and not tear down. Words are powerful and we need to choose wisely.
Take some time now to say a personal prayer of thanks for all that you have been provided. This can be more than people and things, but circumstances, situations, and life lessons. You wouldn’t be you without them all. God has a plan in them all and they are good.
Lord, thank You for allowing me to walk in appreciation for all things and people in my life. Thank You for helping me to experience life in more than just happy, fuzzy feelings. I am grateful for the emotions you have created within me. Help me to be a person of positivity for others and shine Your light on them. Amen.
