I associate the word “undone” with a feeling of negativity. For instance, I have a long day full of debate or hard decisions and I return home feeling completely undone and withered. This is not what I want to feel.
I started to think about how I can change my heart and head from this negative feeling into something good. I started to research this word and I wanted to share with you what I found and how I have been able to change the word “undone” in my life.
First let’s define the word. The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines it as not done : not performed or finished. I have to tell you that I love the definition of undone. It is precise and exactly what I need in my life.
Friend, I want to be undone. Not in the way that I am exhausted or broken, but that I am not finished. There is still more to me that needs to be worked through, used, loved, accepted, explored. My list goes on.
Can we just see what the Word says about being undone?
After a little convincing and reassurance, Moses did as God asked of him. Then he passed it on, “As the Lord commanded his servant Moses, so Moses commanded Joshua, and Joshua did it; he left nothing undone of all that the Lord commanded Moses.” Joshua 11:15 (NIV)
Joshua left nothing undone. What! He did all that he was asked of. Nothing was left undone that the Lord commanded Moses. Moses was undone. He was not finished. God had so much to do with him. He had plans. Moses didn’t think he could be used in his state and circumstances, but God wanted him undone to be used and then pass along the requests of God to Joshua who was also undone, not finished.
I am definitely a woman of no perfection. I seriously am a work in progress every.single.day. I fight hard against feelings of not good enough, ill-equipped, unable, etc. This is why God wants to use me (you too). We are undone people who are still willing to be used so that we can be perfected through Him. Right! I mean, I don’t think I ever want to know what it feels like to not be in a place where I can learn and grow in order to help someone else.
What has you feeling undone?
There are so many answers to this question. You. Are. Not. Alone.
But, we can make this undone a good word and good thing. Be undone for God so that whatever has you feeling undone can be used to work in the life of another. You have a perspective that is important and can change a life. It may by your life that changes most.
Lord, we want to be undone for You. We want to be in a state of not finished so that You can use us in a bigger way. Allow us to see the undone as good and not just a feeling to work through. Amen.
