It Changed Everything

For the last few years I have been trying to better our family health using natural resources. I was tired of all the drugs that were being shoved at my husband with side effects that could be disastrous. He was actually suffering from some of the neurological side effects of the medicines. I thought, “There has got to be a better way.” And so I began a search for something better, something whole, something natural to help and heal.

I have written before on the PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) that my husband has suffered through. Not only has it affected his life in altering ways, but our family has changed because of it. I feel like it is more of a disease than a disorder. ONLY it can be treated and well maintained.

Several years ago, I was at breaking point. War changes a person. When that person returns home, family and life is different. PTSD comes in many forms, but for my family it was in night terrors, anxiety, rush of emotion from high to low, anger, sense of loss. It got scary.

I had a choice to make. Was I going to see this through and help my husband? I did say for better or for worse. This was part of the worse. Or was I going to pack up my kids and leave? I could have. My husband wasn’t in a frame of mind to fix himself. He needed someone to tell him that he needed help. It couldn’t come from me. Another soldier had to tell him about ways to heal and cope with PTSD.

He did begin to see a psychiatrist that specializes in PTSD. He was a wreck and struggled with the fact that he needed help at first. He was asked to talk about the past while he was in “theater,” but mostly about his normal everyday life. How could he deal with it now? He was given lots of medication to help him “cope” and also for pain (because he is a disabled vet). So many medications. And I didn’t know much about them.

I started to research the medications, because he was showing signs of effects that weren’t normal for him. One of the biggest effects was an intense heat. Basically, he felt all the flu symptoms from beginning to end within a 30 minute time period. His ears would burn with fire, and his body would say that he was cold and he would shake as if he were in an icecube. He would turn flush and pale as if he were going to vomit. (I know, not a nice picture.) His body was sending mixed signals, and it had happened because of one of the medications he was given.

I couldn’t keep letting this happen. I found a mom whose daughter suffered a great loss to PTSD within herself. Her life was altered in more than one way when she came home from war. This mom wanted her daughter whole again. She couldn’t watch her self destruct because of PTSD.

The mom was told about essential oils and began to research all the ways they could help her daughter. Nothing else was helping, she had nothing to lose. She found a few oils together helped with the effects and damage of PTSD. She then wrote a book about her experience called Hope with Oils Project. It isn’t a huge book, and I was able to read through the whole thing in one sitting. Truth be told, I couldn’t put it down. It is full of information and helpful tips. The recipe she used is also in the book, and I immediately ordered the necessary oils so that I could make the recipe and have my husband try it. (recipe is below)

Within two days, all I needed was at my home. I made the roller-ball of PTSD blend and had my husband use it that night. He had a better night sleep immediately. Not only that, but the snoring and grinding of teeth that he had been experiencing stopped. I mean, completely stopped. No more snoring. No more grinding teeth. I actually got to sleep better because of this blend as well. Hallelujah!

After two weeks of using the blend before bed, my husband was a different person. His moods were better and he was starting to resemble the man I had married. He was happy most of the time. He enjoyed the kids again. He slept better. He wasn’t having anxiety or flashbacks during the day or at night. I am telling you, this blend saved our marriage. God was good for leading me to the right research and people that I needed to talk to in order for my life to change. Blessed.

My husband will tell you that he can’t live without this blend now. His life has changed. He was skeptical about essential oils at first and now, a few years in, he asks about oils before anything else. My children are the same. They don’t ask for cough syrup or drops or neosporin or any over the counter medicine. They ask what oils are good for what. If I don’t already know, I have great resources to turn to in order to find out.

Disclaimer: I was not paid to talk about essential oils. You notice that I don’t tell you which company I prefer. Also, we still go to doctors when needed, and if we absolutely need a medication for health, we weigh the options, research it, and decide if it is the best avenue for us. God gave us amazing medical personnel for a reason. We still support them and use their services.

As promised, the recipe: PTSD Trinity Oils

You will need a roller ball. You can find them on line at aromatools.com or on amazon.

10 drops Frankincense (This is for the brain.)

10 drops Lavender (we use serenity – use a calming oil) (This is for sleep and calming)

10 drops Peppermint (This is for the mood)

Top the roller ball with fractionated coconut oil (also found on sites above)

Roll the blend across the forehead before bed.

For occasional anger feelings, cardamom is great. You can put a drop on the head, back of neck, or bottom of the big toes.

I would love to chat with anyone needing more assistance on oils for PTSD. I have learned a great deal. I am still learning, but being able to help another life through essential oils is what it is all about. God placed them on earth and gave us this knowledge for a reason. I would be living a completely different life without them.

Be blessed, my friend!
