John and I just returned from our first vacation as a couple in nine years. It was an incredible blessing! It was nice to unplug, disconnect, kick our feet up, have a meal uninterrupted, have conversations that were more than the daily agenda. I felt like I was able to reconnect with him. It was really what we needed, what every couple needs.
One of the things we enjoyed doing on our cruise was relaxing on the deck of the cruise ship and just taking in the sounds, the warmth, the sun (or shade), and just being. We didn’t have to be DOING anything.
Every day, when we would take in the vast ocean or the shore line of our destination, I would be reminded that God, the maker of all of this overwhelming beauty, cares for me. The ocean can be very daunting, but God is bigger. God commands even the winds and the waves, and they obey. In Matthew 8, we read the story of the disciples out on the sea in the midst of a scary storm. They wake Jesus, and He speaks to the storm and it stops! “But He said to them, “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. So the men marveled, saying, “Who can this be, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?” Matthew 8:26-27
In this life of busy-ness, and crisis, and catastrophe, and monumental events, miracles even, God still sees me and cares for me. The same God who created all that is around us! His handiwork created the masterpiece around us, but he loves and cares for little ol’ me.
Let that sink in.
He may not be answering your prayers the way you want or when you want, but He hears you.
He may be asking you to wait.
The same God who commands the waves and the sea, can command the components of your situation. And he may be doing that in a way you could never even imagine. So look to Him. Wait for him.
Bask in His Glory, wait for his timing, and remember that He cares for you.
