Self-Confidence or Jesus Confidence

God’s Harvest Beauty in Nebraska

My Musings ~ early Fall in *Corinne’s Garden, the flower show is over, green and wheat colors prevail in the garden, prairie grasses beckon with their graceful hands as the breezes blow by, air is cool and fresh, and park friends wave as they walk by. It is a lovely day to be outdoors.

Note:*Corinne’s Garden is a name I gave to a community flower garden where my disabled granddaughter and I spent many hours together in her favorite place. It was this garden that inspired me to begin writing. I refer to this place in many of my writings.

God’s Living Word ~ Hebrews 13:8, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” (Paul is to be the writer to the Hebrews although other authors have been brought forth. I would suggest you read chapters 12 and 13 of Hebrews for your understanding)

Fall signals another seasonal change on our prairie. It is always so amazing to me how the seasons glide from one to another; usually without much detection.  Ecclesiastes 3:1, “There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under the heavens,” you only have to open your eyes to see this happening. By the way, did you notice the word change in my opening sentence?  ~ Oh my, that is a power packed word!  Change requires us to adjust to a variety of locations, and experiences.  For example, I have a friend who has experienced a series of major changes over the past years and as a result her self-confidence, is fragile. Recently, she stepped out on faith and made a major move which required finding a job, so she can be self supportive. She was offered a good job in a professional setting. She shared this with me, and then softly uttered these words, “I have lost my self-confidence.”  Her past experiences have plunged her into deep depression, and she is emotionally exhausted. Recent medical help, with prayer, is restoring her mental strength, and I praise God for His words of encouragement for her from Isaiah 41:10.

Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.”

I have prayed for her for years, and I encouraged her by reminding her God says in Proverbs 14:26, “In the fear of the Lord one has strong confidence and His children will have a refuge.”

If you meditate on this verse, it will become very clear to you that our confidence is not in ourselves; what we refer to as “self-confidence.” Philippians 4:13, a beloved word from God says this, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”  Deuteronomy 31:6 speaks these words of confidence from God, “Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or tremble at them, for the LORD your God is the one who goes with you He will not fail you or forsake you.” I have extremely good and sorrowful experiences to look upon; but this one thing I know – it is Jesus who continues to grow my faith, instill His confidence in me, and teach me that my certainty is in Him alone. Oh precious woman of God, let me encourage you to rehearse these cherished words from God, they will hearten your spirit, and lift your voice in praise to Jesus.

Once more, fully depend on Jesus,
