Soups That Warm You

Strolling through one of Mid-West’s popular home improvement stores I browse through “grocery” portion of the store.
I notice a Sale sign for packages of  soup. It’s Winter, it’s cold, and nothing warms me up better than a hot bowl of soup. ( okay, and a nice cup of coffee. )

I grab a few bags and head home to make my home improvement store bagged soup. ( now that just sounds kind of funny, doesn’t it? )
I like to doctor up anything I buy for a more semi-homemade appeal. This one just happened to be a Tortilla soup. I prepared the soup according to the directions on the back of the bag. In a separate pan I brown  up 1/2 pound of ground beef  with a medium sized diced yellow onion, seasoned  with salt and pepper, drained and added to the soup pot along with a can of chili beans and a can of diced tomatoes with green chilies. Heat thoroughly.
Of course I also had to add some shredded sharp cheddar cheese, a dollop of sour cream and a side of tortilla chips. This, doctored up home improvement store  bagged soup is now one of my favorites! Tip: don’t knock the home improvement stores grocery section. You could discover something amazing!
